Impacts of working as a volunteer with an NGO

Mar 6, 2019

WORK and VOLUNTEER are two as non-threatening as words can be. If we cluster them together side by side they can spark an incredible range of opportunities.

Why Should you volunteer ?

That said, volunteer work is becoming widely popular around the world. Providing a variety of career benefits, and being viewed so favourably by potential employers, it’s time to give volunteering some serious consideration.

Many people reach a phase where they feel the need to have an experience that changes their life and improves them as a person – a drive that some choose to satisfy by travelling or beginning a new life abroad, but fear of risks sweeps their courage under the rug.

First things first

In a way or another, ensuring that healthcare will be provided for you and your family is one of the most important things you will need to consider when moving abroad. Thus when you take the decision to live abroad, make sure that healthcare will be provided for you and your family.

Ambrelia, for instance, have created a products’ suite of Medical and Evacuation insurance specially moulded for NGOs and expats carried with plans that can be tailored exactly to the needs of the clients and their families.

Consequently, and because life happens when you’re too busy worrying about other plans, the first step has ought to be choosing an insurance comapny that is able to follow you through your adventure, step by step until you’re home safe.

What to do next ?

On so many levels, volunteerig offers you a wide variety of skills. In a sense, many supressed potentials find their way out – for necessity is the mother of invention.

Hence, as a volunteer, you get to know the work of NGOs in a profound way, and to learn about what it means to work in this field, and gain a true insight in the actual work of an NGO in a particular country.

Furthermore, it is a door to see the country through the eyes of the locals. Unlike a two weeks trip, volunteering enables you to live the country’s culture to the fullest, gradually transforming you into a Global citizen. Some describe it as getting a tattoo without feeling the pain. Beautifully and eternally inked on the soul.

Inspiring Stories of previous Do-gooders

From software to charity

Here we tend to remove the curtain on India, the land of colours, festivals variety diversity and many more. Contrary to its names, today’s India reveals a bitter reality one has never read about in One Thousand and One Night.

In fact, Seruds India is a Non-gouvernemental Indian Organization, whose main objectif is to serve the needs of deprived children, economically disadvantaged women, youth empowerment and hapless elderly people.

What is more, Mr Mallikarjuma, one of SERUDS’ members chose to work constantly for his cause instead of a 9am to 5pm software job. Owing to this, Ravada Foundation has been supporting Seruds in few of its activities as it has been seeing Seruds achieving many notable milestones like setting up of an orphanage, successful implementation of midday meal, creche centres, tailoring centres, awareness programs, saving human’s lives during 2009 floods in Kurnool, etc…

Volunteer : Much more than just an internship

On the other sphere of the world, Nick from Danmark volunteered with African Impact (partner with the African Impact Foundation).

Admittedly, he describes his adventure in Cape town as « much more than just an internship ». After all, South Africa was a destination that he wanted to explore. To be more precise, he always wished to discover its culture, the disadvantaged communities of Cape Town, the endless opportunities of adventures, and to meet people from all over the world. However, his four months with African Impact Foundation has been all that and so much more. Fortunately, through his journey, he got to know communities like Khayelitsha and Langa and the people living there through their projects. According to him, all kids made a deep impact that he will never forget.

Mr Mallikarjuma and Nick are two different people with two different experiences. Nevertheless, they share one reason and one impact : Voluntering and Satisfaction.

To conclude, moving to another country can be an incredibly rewarding life experience, but it comes with a specific set of challenges for health and well-being.

In that, you should allow experts to do their jobs by insuring your safety while you make sure you live the upcoming adventure to its fullest beacause we live everyday and we die only once. They say, the world is a stage and those who fear travelling read only one page. So just go ahead and make a choice, for if they ever told your story, they should say he/she was an adventurer; he/she lived in the time of faithful insurance companies.
